LABOR AND COMMUNITY GROUPS TO HOLD MARCH AND PRESS CONFERENCE AT WISCONSIN MANUFACTURERS AND COMMERCE
Organizers will declare a people’s state of emergency and call for a mass mobilization against the two-year budget bill
What: We will march from Walkerville on the Capitol Square to the Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce (WMC) headquarters for a press conference and rally.
When: Monday, June 13th. The march begins at 12 p.m., followed by the press conference at 12:30 p.m.
Where: March begins at Walkerville (corner of State St. and Mifflin St. in Madison) and ends near WMC headquarters (501 E. Washington St.) for the press conference.
Who: Labor unions and community-based organizations have joined together to call this action under the name “Solidarity Roundtable.”
Why: Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce (WMC) is Wisconsin’s largest and most powerful business lobby group. More than almost any other entity, they have been the driving force behind Governor Walker’s devastating two year budget, which provides hundreds of millions of dollars in tax giveaways to the wealthy while cutting millions from education, health care, social services, and environmental protection.
We, the Solidarity Roundtable, are rallying tomorrow to hold WMC accountable for initiating Walker’s destructive agenda. The press conference will be held in order to highlight the life-and-death consequences this budget represents. We will declare a “State of Emergency” for Wisconsin and will call on the rest of the state and the nation to mobilize to defeat the budget bill in a manner similar to the successful fight against the budget repair bill last winter.
