For Immediate Release
What: Tuesday is the first day state lawmakers will be back in session, and to mark the occasion the Wisconsin Wave is hosting a rally to demand that the legislature halt their divisive agenda, “recall” their two year budget, and begin a new budgeting process that truly reflects the values and priorities of Wisconsinites, not corporate and special interests.
The rally will feature speakers who are members of the communities most affected by the immoral state budget and extremist policy provisions that passed between January and June. Topics to be addressed include the effect this draconian agenda is having and will continue to have on K-12 and higher education, environmental protection, people of color, the immigrant community, both union and non-union working people, and social services including Badger Care, Food Share, and Medicaid.
Speakers will also call on Wisconsin residents to aggressively organize against the continuing assault on Wisconsin values, an assault now taking the form of upcoming bills that roll back legal protections for tenants, weaken vital air and water quality standards, and strip the G.A.B of its authority to regulate corporate campaign spending.
When/Where: Tuesday, September 13th at 5:45pm (immediately following the 5pm Tenant’s Rights Rally), on the State Street side of the Capitol building.
Who: The Wisconsin Wave, a project of the non-partisan Liberty Tree Foundation, is a statewide initiative dedicated to fighting against corporatization and austerity and for democracy and shared prosperity. The Wave functions as an alliance of community groups, labor unions, advocacy organizations, and individual residents from across the state. More information at www.wisconsinwave.org
